Bocas del Toro
Bocas del Toro is a remote province nestled in the north-western corner of Panama close to the border of Costa Rica. The paradisical islands and cays of Bocas del Toro Archipelago are crowned with dense forest and skirted with sandy beaches, mangroves and an extensive coral reef system preserved by the Bastimentos Marine National Park.
The most developed island within the archipelago is Isla Colon, a charming fishing community dotted with pastel-coloured wooden houses and home to a distinctive Caribbean ambience. Isla Carenero is a more peaceful and modest retreat just a short water taxi ride away, and south of Isla Colon is Isla Cristobal frequented by bottlenose dolphins.
For those with an interest beneath the water, snorkelling and diving will uncover a reef teeming with rich marine life. Alternatively, relax on white sandy beaches, hike through tropical rainforest and explore the mangroves for red-billed tropic birds. Moreover, embark on a deep sea fishing trip, observe sea turtle breeding grounds or visit local Ngobe Indian communities for an authentic glimpse of life within this pristine archipelago.
