Exploring India by Luxury Train is becoming a very attractive proposition. A vast majority of the country is now covered by a number of different trains, that operate within their own state. Travelling by road in India inevitably means long journeys, and a certain degree of mobility as one moves from city to city, hotel to hotel. Train travel allows you to stay still, unpack your bags, settle in and call your carriage home, from anywhere between 7 days and upwards. It is an excellent way of seeing the country without compromising on comfort. The majority of the travel takes place at night, in order to see the next new destination in the day. Below is an overview of the luxury circuits each train currently undertakes Palace On Wheels - the oldest of India's luxury trains. It's been operating since 1982 and is rated one of the ten best luxurious train journeys in the world. A trip on this train is like taking a step back in time. The train will take you to some of the most interesting cities in Rajasthan, as well as the Taj Mahal. The train captures the Maharajas royal past.

The Golden Chariot – covers the state of Karnataka, enjoying wildlife in Kabini, the World Heritage site of Hampi, exploration of Mysore, Hampi and touching on the coastline of Goa.
 
Deccan Odyssey – travel across the heart of India on a week long journey through the highlights of Maharastra, namely Mumbai, Goa, Pune, Aurangabad, Ellora and Ajanta Caves. During the year the Deccan Odyssey is taken out of the state of Maharastra and chartered by a luxury private rail company. The onboard staff are provided by the five star Taj Hotel Chain, the itinerary is varied, and the train is host to a number of famous guest speakers.
