What has been your favourite travel experience?
Being invited in for mint tea by a Berber family. It struck me that if 12 Berbers walked past my front door I would never consider doing the same.
The best hotel/lodge that you have stayed in?
A little tea house in Tengboche in the Khumbu Valley, Nepal. It was freezing, the toilet was outside and there was little in the way of luxury, but the view in the morning - sunrise on Everest is hard to beat.
What has been your most remote travel experience?
Trekking in the Atlas, it was before the recent surge in tourism. We trekked for days without meeting another person.
Most embarrassing travel experience?
If travel in the UK counts, I was knitting on the tube when I suddenly realised mine was the next stop. I rushed off the train, rapidly followed by a lady winding up my ball of wool I had trailed down the carriage.
Your one luxury when you travel?
A lot of underwear!
